Stonetrail Riding Routes

All our routes begin and end on open fell, involve very little roadwork and include opportunities for canters and gallops for those who are keen and able. Most routes involve hillwork. The majority of the terrain is grass and stoney tracks.  The times given below are approximate and may take slightly longer. Below is a selection of our more popular routes although we can tailor the exact route and distance to suit your ability. Please ask when booking.

5 Pendragon Castle Ride

According to legend, Uther Pendragon and a hundred of his men were killed here when the Saxon invaders poisoned the well. The location is stunning against the dramatic backdrop of Mallerstang Edge and the river Eden which flows nearby. We have a variety of routes we can take to reach the castle, one of which leads up and over Wild Boar fell using the Pennine Bridleway which offers stunning views from the top.
