Horse Riding & Trekking Holidays in Cumbria, UK near Yorkshire Dales & Lake District

Stonetrail Riding Centre offers tailor made riding  & trekking holidays with   luxury onsite accommodation for groups of up to 16. Situated in Cumbria, Uk, close to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Park, we have immediate fellside access to the new Pennine Bridleway and a superb selection of bridleways routes with virtually no roadwork. This is a unique area with exceptional opportunities for trail riding with wonderful wildlife. We also provide mountain bike hire and walking maps making us a great choice both riders and non riders. 

Stonetrail is based at Street Farm which is owned and run by Alison & David Roper, who, inspired by the opening of the Pennine Bridleway, realised an opportunity to create a unique high quality holiday centre aimed at walkers, cyclists and horse and riders. We have 3 adjoining properties which have been carefully converted from a range of stone barns and offer stylish and contemporary accommodation with wood burning stoves, crisp white linen set against a backdrop oak timbers and exposed stonework. Our accommodation pages detail each layout and style. The stables are next to the accommodation and our 40 acres of grazing with immediate access to Wild Boar fell. 

Our team of horses are sure footed, forward going ( love a great canter ) but also very safe and comfortable. We ride as a small group, no more than 8 at a time and ask for a minimum riding standard as we feel this ensures the best riding experience for both riders and horses. The yard is small and friendly and we have a riding menage due to open in 2010.

A centre based riding holiday with Stonetrail has many advantages. You can choose to ride as much or as little as you like and we can choose a different route each day, with the knowledge that you will be returning home to relax in very comfortable surroundings. Centre based riding holidays are also a great choice if you have non riding partners, horse mad teenages or when members of your group wish to ride less than others. With endless walks from your door and mountain bikes available for your use there is always lots to do.

We also offer Trail Riding breaks where we head off along the Pennine Bridleway and stay overnight on route at B&B's which is always a great adventure. You can also choose to stay in a local B&B close to Street Farm and ride one of our daily rides at distances to suit you. We can help you organise this if you wish. 

Riding Ability

For our riding holidays we are able to be more flexible with our minimum riding standards and we only ask that you are secure in the saddle at trot. We usually get everyone cantering by the end of their holiday which is always a great moment with lots of cheering ! Centre based riding holidays are a great choice for riders who not been on a riding holiday before, or riders who have not ridden for a while because we are able to tailor the routes and duration of the ride on a daily basis to suit your ability and wishes. Our overall aim is to ensure that no-one feels inclined to go faster than they wish whilst the more experienced riders get the opportunity to ride a more challenging route and have a good gallop.  For this reason we spend time discussing your riding experience when you book so we can avoid placing riders with what we feel are different skill levels on the same ride. We welcome unnaccompained children aged 8 and over on our daily rides. Please contact us regarding younger children who are very competent. Our maximum weight limit is 16 stone.

Bespoke Small Group Riding Holidays

We can arrange a tailored riding holiday for groups of between 1 and 8 riders and for groups of 5 - 8 you can opt to ride as a private group,there is no extra charge for thgis.  we can or moreir If you wish  rider to idIf you would like to arrange a riding holiday for a group of friends or family you can book a private holiday for between 5 or 6 persons. This ensures the riding is arranged entirely to suit your wishes and abilities. There is no additional charge for this.

Residential Riding Holiday Prices

Our prices below are based on our luxury self catering accommodation here at Street Farm.  This ensures a great value price and leaves you free to choose to either cook for yourself ( each property has everything you require ) or you can choose to dine in a local award winning pub or cosy Inn, one of which is within walking distance. The local area is a food shoppers paradise but if you wish to keep it simple there is an online grocery service available.  

Example Prices

The prices below are an example of the most popular Riding Holiday itinerarys. We can organise and price a riding holiday for as many nights and days as you wish - please ask if you wish us to help you plan your own itinerary. We do offer a discount for groups of 5 or 6 ( our maximum is 6 riders at any one time ). Please note that full days can be taken as two half day rides. 

Availability & Dates

Please telephone or email Alison to check availability. Our Riding Holidays are available from April 1st until October 31st. Once a booking has been made each rider will receive a detailed itinerary and an information sheet to help you prepare for your holiday.
