Stonetrail - the responsible travel option for walkers, cyclists and horse and riders
Stonetrail is situated in one of the UK's most unique environments and one which, we as owners of the business, were keen to promote in an environmentally responsible way. These are some of the measures and principles we have established so far to help us achieve this aim;
Stonetrail offers non- powered activities, which we refer to as "natural energy activities". This is to minimise where possible any impact on the environment caused by noise or powered activities. We plan our routes carefully so to avoid any overuse of a particular area and consider the impact of varying weather conditions. We are continually monitoring the conditions of the fells and tracks we use and pass on any constructive comments to the relevant organisations. In this way we are helping to conserve our countryside whilst making it accessible and safe for visitors.
Our guided activities include advice on our environment, its history, culture and day-to-day management in an effort to increase the general awareness of its importance and to promote responsible attitudes with regard to its use.
Our land of over 40 acres is managed within an environmentally sensitive agreement, set out by Natural England, designed to maintain and improve its natural habitats and wildlife. This is an important step to maintain the ancient English meadows. We also minimise the use of pesticides and employ wherever possible organic products.
We encourage guests to find ways to limit the use of their car and where possible use public transport.
We have constructed our buildings to provide the highest standards of energy efficiency and have installed wood burning stoves in all our accommodation with the aim of encouraging minimal reliance on central heating. We have installed our own private water supply and are planning the installation of a grid connected wind turbine capable of generating sufficient electricity to power our business.
Re-cycling of waste is encouraged in a simple and easy to use system for visitors.
We purchase consumable products for our business, which are environmentally friendly.
We use and encourage our guests to use local food and drink providers.
